Welcome to Stanton County, Kansas

 

Stanton County is located in southwestern Kansas, along the border of Colorado, and was organized in 1887.  It is named for Edwin M. Stanton, Abraham Lincoln's Secretary of War.

Stanton Country mapStanton County conatins the cities of Manter and Johnson City, the county seat.  Johnson City, which was established in 1885, was originally called Veteran because many of its founders were Civil War veterans. It was renamed Johnson City in 1886, in honor of A. S. Johnson, a railroad official.
